How It Works
Chiropractic care is centered around the relationship of the spinal column to the body’s nervous system which helps to control and coordinate other internal systems. The spinal column consists of 24 vertebrae that protect the spinal cord. It serves as a “switchboard” for the entire nervous system. Pairs of spinal nerves rest between the vertebra and extend to all parts of the body including organs, muscles, glands and other bones. Misalignments in the spine, known as subluxations, put pressure on the nerves. In turn, this nerve interference can cause pain and discomfort. As an example, imagine that you are washing your car. If a friend steps on the hose, the water does not flow and your car will not get washed. Subluxations directly affect other parts of the body by preventing proper nerve flow. Once a chiropractor adjusts the spinal joints, subluxations are removed and normal nerve function is restored. Thus, an aligned spine allows the electrical impulses from the brain to travel to the organs, allowing them to function properly. When your spine is aligned, your whole body benefits and you can maintain optimum health. |
